Well I am back from my trip to "Woods Valley Kampground" in Valley Center near Escondido, CA. If you read my last blog you know that I upgraded from a Jeep Cherokee to a Ford F-150 and for that reason I said nice ride. The new truck had a bit more power and is set up for towing and with the longer wheel base it sure made a difference on the road. Now to tell you a bit about the campground for those that might want to venture out and try it some time. First off I would say call ahead and find out the fire danger, as we were not allowed to have a fire and what is camping with out a fire to sit around? It was cold at night and with so many trees I could not set up my satellite dish, so bring out the DVD's and no cable either. We arrived on Friday afternoon and set up and as you know this time of year the sun goes down early so we did not have much time to wander around before dark. With that it was an early night and up with the sun in the morning, cold too. Morning brought eggs and more and time to see what this place looked like and it was very nice, rustic but very nice. Lots of tree's and I love that, for me no trees why bother. Found the unheated pool, sorry much to cold to swim, but could be nice in the summer, found a duck and fish pond that is catch and release, fish that is not the ducks. They had some billy goats in a pen that was interesting to watch and they have horns and like to sharpen them and scratch with them. They had some pony's too. Later in the day our friends started to show up and we helped them set up and some had simple set ups and one family even brought a sink. Now with lots of kids running around it was fun for all, but they too were bummed at we could have no fires. Dinner came at it was getting dark and cold and we that had them brought out our heaters, but with no fires it was early to bed and by 7:30 all were inside and done for the night, bring out the DVD again and we were in bed by 9:30 ourselves. Sunday brought a good breakfast and church time under the trees, what a nice way to have church. By noon we were on our way home with all the wood we brought (bummer) but next time! I will say the campground was nice, but not a resort, but at $33 a night with E & W it was good and would con sitter going back when the fire danger was not so bad, so if you are in the area and want a good campground to use ck them out.
